Our House Studios: Our House Studios (OHS) is a community gym located just a few miles from us. Many of our student's parents and family participate in their group classes and events as well as use their facility for their own workouts. OHS will contribute to The Rec Project through donations and hosting events.
Partners in Care: Our chairperson, Dr. Terry Melvin, MD, will provide low cost to free health care for all qualifying participants and family members. Dr. Melvin will assist with bringing in volunteer seniors to speak with participants, providing mentorship that spans across generations. Dr. Melvin will provide avenues for participants and families to seek emotional support through recommendations. She will help participants learn how to care for their bodies from the inside out.
Superior Physical Health: Dr. Shaun Roach, B.S. D.C. will provide a recovery room for participants to learn about injury prevention. Essential tools for keeping the body in tip top shape such as foam rolling, stretching, posture correcting exercises, functional movement, etc.
University of Tennessee Chattanooga: UTC has agreed to help provide volunteers and interns to assist with daily operations as well as program implementation. UTC students from various backgrounds and majors will work diligently with participants to create a well-rounded atmosphere.
Presidential Youth Fitness Program: The Presidential Youth Fitness Program (PYFP) is an accredited national fitness education and assessment program that offers presidential recognition to schools and students. The program provides a model to help schools achieve excellence in physical education through quality fitness assessment practices. OHS has partnered with PYFP to provide students with the opportunity to become certified trainers. The PYFP takes the emphasis off the test and focuses on the process and promotion of health-related fitness. Emphasis is on individual goal setting and the achievement of age- and gender-appropriate standards. Students are no longer compared to their peers, which was the basis of the old youth fitness test.
Parks and Recreation Departments: Due to our location, we have the availability to utilize both East Ridge and Catoosa County Parks and Recreation Departments’ facilities for various day camps, community service, and other events. The parks and recreation departments offer athletic and educational opportunities that will be enriching for our students throughout the year.
XGT Fitness: XGT Fitness is a complete fundamental program that infuses multiple techniques that produce results such as; fat burning, muscle building, cardiovascular endurance, and improved motor skills. Coupled with Accurofit technology, this heart rate monitored high-intensity group personal training program is designed to keep each student’s heart rate in a target zone that burns more calories and fat than traditional gym workouts. Real results, real fast.
Blind Man Running: Pete Cossaboon is an adaptive athlete that overcomes daily obstacles while battling blindness. He is a strong advocate for The Rec Project and will guide participants through challenges to help them understand what it is like to walk through a world of darkness. Blind Pete will host events with The Rec Project as the beneficiary.
Phoenix Race OCR: Their mission is to provide a positive and supportive team atmosphere to encourage people to overcome obstacles on and off the course. Phoenix Race strives to persevere and conquer obstacles on the course and help others overcome whatever course or life obstacles they are facing. The purpose of Phoenix Race is to train individuals to face obstacles head on, on and off the course. There are race scholarships available to athletes who are working hard to get on the course but have circumstances that prevent it due to physical disabilities or financial struggle. The Rec Project will be the annual beneficiary for the local Chattanooga race in September.
