The Rec Project Inc. believes that there are certain things that are essential to learning but that are not taught in the classroom. In an ever-growing technology and data driven world, much of the focus in education has shifted toward a STEM-based (science, technology, engineering, and math) initiative. What this means is that students are being prepared for specific coursework and careers of the future. While schools do an excellent job in providing students with what they need to succeed in their education, our program teaches certain things that we feel will allow the students to succeed in life. It is here that our students will learn such skills as resume building, public speaking, how to make connections, how to budget finances, and how to increase self-confidence.
By providing students with life skills, our students are able to reap several benefits. Those benefits are as follows:
Making Good Choices:
Life skills enable students to navigate through everyday situations as well as how to make good decisions about more abstract, long-term choices that will affect their lives. Students are also better able to manage peer pressure and to navigate adulthood with confidence.
Being Responsible:
Life skills enable students to navigate through the turbulent years of adolescence and allows them to steer clear of irresponsible decisions throughout their life. Learning to be responsible will enable your child to manage money responsibly, make healthy food choices, stand up to unhealthy peer pressure and be a good parent in the long-term.
